This incredibly intensive season came to an end with its climax at the home of Rugby: Twickenham.
The teams walked onto the pitch for the 11am kick-off ; one of four finals being played out the day. Cheshire had come to the final having won all the games in the primary round and successfully dominating the East Mids. in the semi-final.
The first half saw Cheshire ease into a 24 to 10 points lead with Captain Ollie Longmore and #10 Charly Attis controlling the game with strong driving rugby. Oxfordshire stayed in the frame though the Fullback Chris Webb’s late breakaway try.
The second half saw the steady build up to 37 – 17 lead with just 20 minutes to go. This was the turning point; a series of unfortunate penalties saw possession move radically to Oxfordshire and before 12 minutes of extra time was played, they were within a converted try of victory. This came in the very last minute and was cleanly converted to give Oxfordshire victory.
Cheshire has had a great season and possibly the better side through all the different rounds. The day at Twickenham is one they will remember for all their playing days. Well done Gareth Davies & Coach Chris Jones and all the Squad and support team.
