It is with great sadness that Cheshire RFU announce the death of David Wilde a great servant to both Anselmians RFC and Cheshire RFU. Please find below the announcement from Tony McArdle. Funeral arrangements to follow.

“I have just received the very sad news that club stalwart David Wilde passed away in hospital last night.

Dave was our Cheshire Rep & International Ticket Secretary, a great committee man, a tireless worker for Anselmians RUFC, Cheshire RFU and rugby in general.

Dave served for many years on the Cheshire Disciplinary committee, before joining Anselmians he was a member of Birkenhead Park rugby club for many years where he also did much great work.

Many local players of a certain age will remember the old Wirral Floodlit cup which used to be played at Birkenhead Park mid-week in the pre league days, Dave was the competition secretary and worked very hard to make the competition a success.

Dave was a great organiser, anyone who has had the fortune to go to Dublin, Paris or Rome on one of “Wilde’s Tours” will have very fond memories.

Even tough not in the best of health in recent years Dave very seldom missed an Anselmians first team game, home or away, he was the ultimate club man.

Dave was a great “rugby man”, always good company, he will be sadly missed by his family, friends & rugby compatriots.

The game of rugby is poorer for his passing.”

David’s funeral service will be at Christchurch in Port Sunlight on 21 August at 11.00am. He will then go onto Landican cemetery at Arrowe Park if people wish to attend. Afterwards there will be refreshments and food at Hulme Hall in Port Sunlight.

His family have told me they want people to celebrate his life in a warm, friendly and jovial mood – the way David would have wanted – so they are looking forward to meeting as many of David’s friends as possible afterwards at Hulme Hall.
