Cheshire 55 points Staffordshire 0

On an extremely wet night at Congleton high school Cheshire began their season with a very convincing victory over Staffordshire. The excellent 3G facility at the school ensured that the game could be played at the fast pace that Cheshire desired.

The basis of our win was our excellent forward base and the front row of Louis Fletcher, Bradley Boyd and Isaac Hardisty were excellent in the tight and also in the loose and their work was complimented in the second half by Ciaron Madeley and Luca Del Rio. The four second rows Triston Brady, Nathan Brooks, Archie Stanway and Finlay Murphy made very promising starts to their county careers as did our two flankers Owen McPherson and Liam Ashworth. Number 8 Joe Craven took the eye with some very aggressive runs.

The backs had plenty of ball to play with and Ru Morgan captained the side on his home pitch and Mark Ravenscroft and Ewan Holt were instrumental in making inroads in the Staffordshire defence. Ryan Messan, Mo Ali and Mathew Harrop were outstanding in defence and attack for the county. Archie Kellett no. 9 played like a member of the back row and was the top tackler of the night. The two fly halves, Will Uttley and Thomas Gow orchestrated the proceedings with precision and flair.

The next and last training session will be held at St Ambrose on Monday March 19th 5.30 – 7pm and the teams to play against Lancashire will be posted this week.
