Winnington Park hosted the first Ladies Inner Warrior event of the new year on Friday 12th January at Burrows Hill which was boosted by the fact that England World Cup winning captain Katy Daley-McLean took time out of her busy schedule to attend the event.
Not only did Katy attend, she joined in the training session both playing and coaching the ladies which brought massive smiles to all those involved, especially when they were able to tackle her and be tackled in return.
Not wanting to be left out a number of the U13, U15 and U18 Girls also turned up to learn from one of the best and Winnington Park was full of happy smiling faces. We even had some of the boys turn up to watch, such is the appeal of a player of Katy’s calibre.
Not only were we allowed to take numerous ‘selfies’ but Katy was really great at explaining training schedules, match day diets and how she prepares to play for both club and country.
We feel both privileged and honoured to have welcomed her to our club and we would love for her to come back anytime she can make it. She’s a true ambassador for the sport we all love.
A massive thank you to Simon Verbickas, CRC for Winnington Park who led the sessions and Dave Westhead, RDO for his behind the scenes support on the night.
