Excellent away win in Yorkshire.

Yorkshire v Cheshire at 16 Group Sunday 7 January.

The game was played in ideal conditions on the ARG pitch at Keighly RFC and accompanied by the winter sun.

Yorkshire started very well exerting a great deal of pressure, especially on the Cheshire scrum and capitalising on their mistakes. They were soon two tries up and things looked ominous for Cheshire.

Cheshire gradually stabilised the scrum, fought back and started to dominate possession. The forwards carried well and the backs utilised all their chances. M. Redpath reversed the direction of attack for H. Shiel to score close to the corner and then continue to covert his own try. Pressure continued and O. Leatherbarrow touched down at the base of the post for H. Shiel to convert.

Early in the second half Yorkshire pressure was rewarded with a converted penalty but Cheshire were quick to reassert their dominance ending in a try by H. Fishwick.

Continuing Cheshire pressure was finished by a good individual effort from H. Shiel who the converted his own try.

Cheshire pressure continued but an interception deep in their own half resulted in a converted try to Yorkshire. This revitalised Yorkshire but Cheshire kept them out to win deservedly 28pts to 22pts.

The next full squad session is Mon 15 Jan at St Ambrose College 5.00 to 7.00pm.
